Since a few days right click on pictures in orkut album is disabled, so we cant not save the images from orkut albums using the save image option, also saving the entire page wont help you. Here are two simple ways to save images in orkut albums.

Open the picture which you want to save
Press f11, this will hide the tool bars and gives extra room for the image.
Now press the “print screen” key on your keyboard
Open paint or any other similar program<
To open paint, press (win+r) and type “mspaint” or click on start>all programs>accessories>paint
Now press ctr+v and save the image.

Dragging the image:

Click, Drag the image and drop it on address bar. It will be opened in a new page where right click is enabled.

Using “save frame as” option in firefox:

This is a very simple method to save the image campared to the previous one. Lets do it with an example.

I want to save a cute doggy picture. So I open the page in firefox and click on "File"(which is at the top left of your browser) and then select "save frame as" option and save it with the name cute and then browse to the folder cute_files to find the picture.

Note: Some of the settings mentioned below are optimized for 256k connection. If you want to calculate the optimal settings for your connection, check at the end of this tutorial. But I suggest you to read the entire tutorial for guidance on other settings.

First go to Options>Preferences>Network

1. Under ‘Port used for incoming connections’, enter any port number. It is best to use a port number above 10000. I use 45682.
2. Randomize port each time utorrent starts: UNCHECKED. I leave this unchecked because I have a router. If you do not have a router or a firewall, and want extra security,check this option.
3. Enable UPnP port mapping (Windows Xp or later only): UNCHECKED.I leave this unchecked because I have experienced it slowing down speeds. It is not needed if you manually port forward.
4. Add utorrent to Windows Firewall exceptions (Windows XP SP2 or later only): UNCHECKED (do this only if you have windows firewall disabled)
5. Global Maximum upload rate (kb/s): [0: unlimited]: 22 (for 256k connection)
6. Protocol Encryption: ENABLED. I would recommend everyone to enable this. This can help increase speeds with many ISPs.
7. Allow incoming Legacy Connections: CHECKED

Options>Preferences>Torrents

1. Global Maximum Number of Connections: 130 (for 256k connection)This number should not be set too low or the number of connections made to your torrents will be limited. Setting it too high may cause too much bandwidth to be used and can cause slowdowns.
2. Maximum Number of connected peers per torrent: 70 (for 256k connection)If you see that the peers connected to a specific torrent are exactly this number, or very close, increase this number to improve speeds.
3. Number of upload slots per torrent: 3 (for 256k connection)This depends on how much you want to upload to other users. Do not set too low or it may affect download speeds.
4. Use additional upload slots if upload speed <90%: CHECKED
5. Maximum number of active torrents: 2 (for 256k connection)
6. Maximum number of active downloads: 1 (for 256k connection)
7. Enable DHT Network: CHECKEDThis is recommended to be checked to improve speeds. More people will be available for sharing if this is checked.
8. Enable DHT for new torrents: CHECKED
9. Enable Peer Exchange: CHECKED
10. Enable scrapping: CHECKED
11. Pre-allocate all files: CHECKED
12. Append .!ut to incomplete files: UNCHECKED Torrent Settings

If you use Windows XP SP2, patch tcpip.sys with LvlLord’s Event ID 4226 Patcher to get better performance.

DO NOT CHANGE THIS OPTION unless you have Windows XP SP2 and have patched tcpip.sys.

You can also patch tcpip.sys with xp-Antispy

If you have a firewall

* Open up the options/preferences/settings for the firewall - usually your firewall will have an icon to click in the taskbar
* Look for the keywords “allow list” or “programs”
* Add the application you want to give access to the internet
* Make sure to save your settings when you are done

If you have a router

1. Go to start>run>type cmd, press enter>type ipconfig, press enter
2. Remember both your ip address and your default gateway
3. Type in your default gateway into your default browser, a password prompt may come up. The default username and password are admin for my router
4. Under ‘Applications’ fill out one line for each p2p client you use
5. You need to use your ip address, the correct port range and set either tcp or udp
6. You can find and change the ports in the actual p2p client’s settings, just make sure they are the same in the router
7. Most p2p apps need both tcp and udp checked, if you are not sure check your p2p client’s FAQ
8. Save your settings

In order to apply the following tips you need to know your maximum upload and download speeds. You can test your bandwidth over here.

Maximum upload speed

If you use your Maximum upload speed, there won’t be not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.

This is how I calculate my optimal upload speed…

upload speed * 80%

Maximum download speed

Setting your maximum download speed to unlimited will hurt your connection. So use this to calculate your optimal setting.

download speed * 90%

Maximum connected peers per torrent

upload speed * 1.3

Maximum upload slots

1 + (upload speed / 6)

Disable Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall hates P2P and so disable it and get yourself a decent firewall like Zone Alarm.

And last optimize your Internet connection with TCP Optimizer.

Different ways to shutdown your PC.

There are so many different ways to turn off your Windows XP computer, let's look at some of them:

1. The standard approach - click the Start Button with your mouse, then select the Turn Off menu and finally click the Turn Off icon on the Turn Off computer dialog.
2. Press Ctrl+Esc key or the Win key and press U two times - the fastest approach.
3. Get the Shutdown utility from Download.com - it add the shut down shortcuts for you. Else create them yourself using approach (4).
4. Create a shutdown shortcut on your desktop. Right click on the desktop, choose New Shortcut and type shutdown -s -t 00 in the area where you are asked to specify the location of the program file. Now you can just double click this icon to turn off the computer. The best location would be your quick launch bar.
5. Press the Win key + R key to open the run window. Type shutdown -s -t 00. [s means shutdown while t means the duration after which you want to initiate the shutdown process]. If some open processes or application won't let you turn off, append a -f switch to force a shutdown by closing all active processes.
6. Win+M to minimize all windows and then Alt+F4 to bring the Turn Off computer dialog.
7. Open Windows Task manager (by right clicking the Windows Task bar or Alt+Ctrl+Del) and choose Shut down from the menu. Useful when the Windows are not responding.

> Make the change to your system
> Go back to Regedit
> Press F5 to update it

Wireless Keyboard/Mouse- it’s always a great feeling to get rid of those crummy wires- plus if you choose a nice set, you can control volume, media players, get shortcuts to emails/word documents. The sky is the limit- it’s controlling your entire computer from a couple easy buttons on your keyboard/mouse.

Wireless Internet Cards/Routers - for those of you with laptops who are still plugging in blue Ethernet chords-just stop! YOU are outdated if you still use those blue cat5 cables with your laptop. Most laptops come standard now with a wireless card to connect to the internet from anywhere around the house/yard. This also is a great segway to a new router. Routers are becoming the talk of the tech world now with such new innovations that are providing to be useful more then ever. Some of the newest routers contain features like build in harddrives to have a network ready storage bin for everyone in the family to share documents or for users who like to work on a desktop and then work on that same file on a laptop as well

Better Display- If anyone is reading this article on a CRT…you have issues. LCD’s are the only way to go in our modern world with the prices expected to DROP rapidly (even though they are pretty reasonable at the moment) Treat yourself to a larger display (17-24″) moniter and dont feel shy to even look at some widescreen views. If your someone who spends some significant time on the computer- or if you even use it for simple email tasks, a monitor upgrade should be high on your list!

Sound Quality- Mp3 players are now owned by over 20% of the worlds population which means these users have a source for putting their music onto these players. Most computer users suffer through poor sound quality when a quick 30-50 dollar sound card and 20 dollar upgrade for a cheap pair of speakers would solve some ailing ears.

Don't be afraid to spend some money on these products as they arent so “rapid- changing” as their hardware brother and sisters!

Microsoft has announced it will not include support for the Java programming language in the upcoming Windows XP. After settling a lawsuit with Java creator Sun Microsystems in January, the software giant decided the easiest way to prevent further litigation was to simply remove the code entirely.

The settlement stipulated that Microsoft would no longer license Java from Sun, and refrain from stating that Windows is "Java Compatible." Outdated Java support will remain available as an added download from Windows Update if required. Java's removal from the software giant's new operating system comes on the heels of announcements surrounding .NET, Microsoft Web services based on XML.

These services are accessed over the Internet from a variety of devices. Coincidentally, Sun has been developing its own Java-based version of .NET, dubbed Jini. However, Microsoft vehemently denies claims that it intends to phase out support for Java as an attack on Sun.

Volume Icon in Taskbar

It's really handy to have access to the Volume Control panel in the event you quickly need to move the volume slider up or down. In its default state, XP ships with almost a clean slate for both the desktop and taskbar. So, if you'd like to place the volume control icon in the taskbar, you're going to need to make a little adjustment.

To place the volume control icon in the taskbar, follow these steps:

> Single-click the Start menu.
> Single-click Control Panel.
> Single-click Sound, Speech, and Audio Devices.

If you plan on getting a copy of XP, one of the first things you're going to do is set up a user account. Why not give your user account its very own picture? It's OK if you don't want to use a picture of your own because Windows comes with at least 20 beautiful pictures to choose from.

Here's how you can customize your user account icon.

Well, I don't use ad sense here. So I don't have to scare of one day getting email about I'm getting banned due to fraudulent click. But for one of my friend, who depends on Google ad sense, it's life and death situation.

One day, he accidentally click one of ad sense and send email to customer support informing about the accident. (Yeah! he's that honest) After two days of nightmare, he got the following reply from Google.

Last month I share with you guys about the Firefox shortcuts that I frequently use. But right now, I found out this new, very nice shortcut again. I used to accidentally close tab in Firefox, sometimes in my favorite website or sometimes in totally first time new interesting site. To reopen, I have to dig down in my history list.

I don't have to do that anymore. I can press Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen the tab I have just closed. More interestingly, you can press Ctrl+Shift+T as many times as you want to reopen many closed tabs. It's quite handy for me indeed.

How to enable Run As command

For Windows Vista, this Run As command is available in all versions. If you're not yet running Vista, you can still stick to XP. Yeah, this Run As is not enough to convince you to make a switch obviously.

To enable Run As in Windows XP or Windows 2000, you need to run related service.

For Windows XP,

* Go to Control Panel -->> Administrative Templates
* Double Click Services
* In the right panel, find Secondary Logon and double click.
* For startup type, choose Automatic and click Start.
* After that click OK.

Now secondary logon service is running. So that you can start using Run As command by right click on the program you want to run and choose Run As.

For Windows 2000, you do the same procedure, but look for the service named "RunAs".

Take preventive measures against losing user-level passwords.

It doesn't matter if you never again remember a Windows user password. Thanks to X P's Forgotten Password Wizard, your conscience will be free and clear -- should your mind happen to accidentally misplace your user password.

I highly suggest you create a password recovery disk the minute you create your user account. Why? In order to create a password recovery disk you're going to need your password. Write it down the minute you create your user account and then proceed to creating your very own password recovery disk.

Here's how to launch the Forgotten Password Wizard:

Single-click Start menu, Control Panel, and User Accounts.
Click your user account name.
Under Related Tasks on the left, click "Prevent forgotten password" to launch the wizard.

Now that you've launched the wizard, let it walk you through creating the recovery disk. Make sure the disk you use is formatted and in the drive. After it's finished creating the disk, label it and stash it away for an emergency.

If you happen to forget your password, all you need to do is click your user icon at the logon screen. Even though you don't have your password, go ahead and click the green arrow just like you would to finish logging on to your computer. This will launch a little yellow dialog box directing you to use your password recovery disk.

Windows XP and Symmetric Multiprocessing

Symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) is a technology that allows a computer to use more than one processor. The most common configuration of an SMP computer is one that uses two processors. The two processors are used to complete your computing tasks faster than a single processor. (Two processors aren't necessarily twice as fast as a single processor, though.)

In order for a computer to take advantage of a multiprocessor setup, the software must be written for use with an SMP system. If a program isn't written for SMP, it won't take advantage of SMP. Not every program is written for SMP; SMP applications, such as image-editing programs, video-editing suites, and databases, tend to be processor intensive.

SMP in Windows XP

Operating systems also need to be written for SMP in order to use multiple processors. In the Windows XP family, only XP Professional supports SMP; XP Home does not. If you're a consumer with a dual-processor PC at home, you have to buy XP Professional. Windows XP Advanced Server also supports SMP.

In Microsoft's grand scheme, XP Professional is meant to replace Windows 2000, which supports SMP. In fact, XP Professional uses the same kernel as Windows 2000. XP Home is designed to replace Windows Me as the consumer OS, and Windows Me does not support SMP.

The difference between XP Professional and XP Home is more than just $100 and SMP support. XP Professional has plenty of other features not found in XP Home; some you'll use, others you won't care about. Get more information on the differences by reading this article.

You want to know if all your favorite games are still going to run under Windows XP. Remember what happened when we tried to run games on our Windows 2000 machines? Sometimes we were a little disappointed. Windows 2000 was made more for corporate applications than "Quake," but true techno-geeks know they don't have to sacrifice death matches for a robust business environment -- at least not anymore.

Windows XP has shown an impressive track record of game compatibility. We ran a number of standard games, such as "Tiger Woods Golf," "NHL 2001," "Max Payne," and "Unreal" on our Windows XP Professional machine. Some of these games were specifically slated for Windows 95 and 98, and were shown not to work in Windows 2000. The installation in XP was as smooth as silk. The games ran quickly and beautifully -- not a problem in sight (except for my bad chip shot -- Tiger was hanging his head in shame).

Some less-sophisticated programs may not run as smoothly, and we found that some older applications, such as the Atari 2600 Classic Game Collection, did not appreciate the Windows XP environment. In this case you can use the Application Compatibility Wizard, found in the accessories menu. XP includes integrated compatibility layers to mimic older versions of Windows, so if your program does not work in Windows XP, the compatibility wizard will walk you through the process of getting even your favorite DOS games up and running. In this case, we ran the Atari Classic Game Collection in the Windows 95 environment, at 256 colors and 640x480 screen resolution. Then we set XP to always run our Atari application in this environment, and everything was smooth sailing after that.

One final tip about compatibility: Don't run the compatibility wizard if your program appears to be running well in the normal environment, as the wizard will give you an error message. In general, XP has great program compatibility, so you can upgrade your operating system without giving up all your old favorites.

Windows XP Step-by-Step Installation Instructions

These steps are for a clean install of XP. Read this article for steps on upgrading your current system to XP.

First, you're going to need to change your BIOS boot order to boot from CD-ROM. Once you do this you'll then be able to boot your computer from the Installation CD.

After changing the boot order in BIOS, save the changes, and then reboot your computer. Make sure your Installation CD is in your CD-ROM. If it is you'll be prompted to press your space bar to directly boot from CD-ROM emulation. Press your space bar as soon as you see this message.

Wait a few minutes while the installation begins to copy the preliminary setup files to your computer. After this completes you'll be ready to start directing the install process.

You will be asked if you want to perform a new installation, repair an existing installation, or quit. In this case, you will be performing a new install. Press the correct key to perform a new installation.

Read the terms of the end user license agreement, and press F8 to agree.

The next phase of the installation is real similar to that of Windows 2000. So, if you're familiar with the Windows 2000 installation process this should be a cinch.
Basically, you need to decide which partition of your hard drive you will install Windows XP on. You will have the opportunity to create and/or delete partitions or just allocate the available disk space to one partition. However, try to keep your partitions within reasonable size.

We recommend using multiple partitions of 4-8GB, preferably on more than one hard drive. This will help you back up your data and optimize system performance later on down the road. Once you have figured out which partition XP will be installed on it's time to format it.

Choose to format the partition to either FAT32 or NTFS (recommended for single OS install). You'll also see two additional choices to perform a quick format of each option. Stick with doing a full format of either option instead. After you've determined which option is right for you, press the correct key to format the partition.

This would be a good time to take a break and come back in a few minutes. The setup program will automatically start copying files after the partition is formatted.
From this point on, you're going to see each and every file name that's being copied over to your hard drive appear in the lower left corner. As the file names go from A to Z, the installation completion percentage will increase.

Choose the region and language.

Type in your name and organization.

Enter your product license key.

Name the computer, and enter an Admin password. Don't forget to write down your Administrator password. After the installation is complete it would be extremely wise to create a password restore disk in the event you forget your Administrator password someday.

Enter the correct date and time.

Choose your network settings. Leave on automatic if you use a dhcp server to assign IP addresses. If you have static IP address for broadband access, enter the settings that your ISP has provided you.

Choose workgroup or domain name.

Register this copy of Windows XP if you've installed all the current hardware on your machine. Otherwise, wait until you've finished installing any additional hardware so you don't have to activate your copy of XP again.

Add users that will sign on to this computer.

Log in, and update drivers.

Driver install

XP found drivers for all of the hardware in our test machines, with the exception of a wireless network adapter that was added. Update all drivers that had updates available for download.

It takes about 30 minutes to perform this installation. After that, you will be a few personalized settings away from getting started on your XP-experience. With a little use, the GUI even starts to grow on you.

Install Windows XP Professional - New Installation

There are three reasons why you may need to install a new copy of Windows XP:

Your current operating system doesn’t support an upgrade to Windows XP Professional.
Your current operating system supports an upgrade to Windows XP Professional, but you don’t want to keep your existing files and personalized settings.
Your computer does not have an operating system.

The setup process is similar for new installations and upgrades with a few notable exceptions. For example, during a new installation, you are able to configure Special Options, convert your file system, and create a new partition for the Windows XP installation.

IMPORTANT
A new installation deletes all programs or system files from a previous installation.

Special Options

Under Special Options, you have the choice to change Language, Advanced, and Accessibility settings during the setup process.

Note: If you are in a country that has recently adopted the euro as its currency, you may have to modify the currency settings to display monetary amounts correctly.

For more information, go to Help and Support Center and type “euro” in the Search box.

Select	If you want to...
Language	Choose the primary language and regions for Windows XP, which affects the default settings for date, time, currency, numbers, character sets, and keyboard layout. Choose additional language groups and character sets to use with the programs you are running on Windows XP.

Unless you're an advanced user, it's recommended that you use the default settings.

Choosing a File System

During a new installation of Windows XP, you may have to choose which file system your computer should use. Windows XP Professional supports:

FAT32: An enhanced version of the file allocation table (FAT) system that is standard on all Windows operating systems starting with later (32-bit) versions of Windows 95. The FAT32 system can be used on large hard disks, from 512 megabytes (MB) to 32 gigabytes (GB).
NTFS: The NT file system (NTFS) is used with the Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems. NTFS provides enhanced reliability, stability, and security, and supports large hard disks of up to 2 terabytes (TB).

IMPORTANT
You can convert your file system any time, even after you install Windows XP, without losing any of your data.

The conversion to NTFS is one–way only; if you convert your FAT or FAT32 file system to NTFS you can’t convert your hard disk back to FAT later.

If you’re not sure which file system to use, keep the one your computer defaults to during Setup. If you want to change your file system, here are a few recommendations:

Use FAT32 if your hard disk is smaller than 32 GB.
Use FAT32 if you want to install more than one operating system on your computer.
Use NTFS if your hard drive is larger than 32 GB and you are running only one operating system on your computer.
Use NTFS if you want enhanced file security.
Use NTFS if you need better disk compression.

Disk Partitions

You can create partitions to organize information—for example, to back up data—or to install more than one operating system on your computer. A hard disk can contain up to four partitions.

If you’re performing a new installation, the appropriate disk partition is selected automatically during Windows XP Setup unless you click Advanced Options and specify your own requirements

XP File Sharing and Permissions

File sharing and permissions in Windows XP seem complicated.

Microsoft provides a Knowledge Base article, but reading it is like walking through molasses: It describes in infinite detail a file security system based on a 1-to-5 scale. However, if you look for this 1-to-5 scale anywhere in your security-settings interface, you may come away a little confused. These numbers are nowhere to be found.

Microsoft's 1-to-5 scale means nothing to the individual user and relates in no way to the actual practice of setting your security protocols. Enter the Screen Savers. We are here to explain it to you.

The security settings the user actually sets relate to read access, write access, shared folders, and password protection. These features are available in both Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional, however the features only work if the operating system is installed with NTFS. FAT32 does not support the file permissions described here.

You can choose to install Windows XP Home using NTFS, but you should use a FAT32 file system if you are dual booting and want to see the contents of your Windows 95, 98, or Me partition from your XP partition. Your file system is not set in stone when you install Windows XP. You always can change your file system from FAT32 to NTFS without losing any of your data; however, the transition is one-way only.

There is no going back to FAT32 from NTFS unless you grab a copy of Partition Magic. Microsoft recommends you install Windows XP Home with FAT32 if you intend to install more than one OS on your computer or if your hard drive is less than 32GB.

If you have Windows XP Home or Professional running NTFS, you can hide files and entire folders from prying eyes. When you set up multiple user accounts on one machine, any user with administrator access can view the documents in another's My Documents folders. To protect a folder, right-click it, choose Properties, the Share tab, and select "make this folder private." No one, not even a fellow system administrator, can access these most secret files.

Every file or folder contained within whichever folder you choose to make private will take on the settings of the parent folder. If the administrator does not have a password to the account, Windows XP will prompt the user to make a password or risk subjecting his or her private work to public scrutiny. No Windows password means no protected files.

A person who logs in as a guest or as a user without administrator privileges cannot see the contents of any other user's My Documents folder, even if the folder has not been explicitly made private. The user with limited privileges can, however, set a password and protect his or her documents from the prying eyes of the administrators. Windows XP is all about privacy.

It is a nice feeling to keep your personal tax documents secure from the passing lookey-loo. It's about time Microsoft made snooping your computer more difficult than snooping your medicine cabinet.

Compatibility Mode Make older programs run in Windows XP

If you're having trouble running older programs originally developed for previous versions of Windows, you're not out of luck. Luckily for consumers, Microsoft built Compatibility Mode into XP. Compatibility Mode allows you to run a program using the shell of the original program it was developed for.

Here's how to access a program's Compatibility Mode in XP:

Find the executable or program shortcut icon you'd like to run.
Right-click the icon and select Properties.
Click the Compatibility tab and place a check mark next to the text labeled "Run this program in compatibility mode."
Select the operating system that the program was originally intended to run on.
You may need to fine-tune the three fields under "Display Settings" if an older program requires 640x480 resolution or 256 colors.
Click Apply.

Try starting the program after making these changes. If it still gives you trouble, try a different operating system. If the program was written for Win95 and worked fine in Win98, there's nothing that says it still won't work fine with Win98.

Virus affects Mozilla & Orkut

The browser war between Internet Explorer (IE) and Mozilla has taken a new turn with a new Virus pitching in to help IE. The W32.USBWorm known popularly as the 'I Hate Mozilla Virus' prevents users from opening Mozilla and also prevents them from accessing sites like Orkut and Youtube.

Every time the user opens Mozilla, the Virus pops up with a message, "Use IE, You Dope. I don't hate Mozilla but use IE or else...." and closes the browser window. When the user tries to get into Orkut or Youtube again the villainous pop-up splash the message :Orkut is banned, Orkut is banned you fool.

The administrators didn't write this program guess who did?" and it plays a sound, supposedly a devil's laugh. The worm then closes the web page window.

While this might seem funny, some of the users who are addicted to Mozilla and Orkut find it really frustrating. Unfortunately, none of the anti virus programmers including Nortan, McAfee and AVG has been able to detect the Virus. The worm spreads via thumbdrives, data cards and storage discs, using the computer's Autorun feature.

A Simple Solution to remove the Virus :

* Open Task Manager by holding Ctrl + Alt + Del and click on the process tab.

* Ignore the warning messages and stop the SVC.Host for the system's user name.

* Navigate to C:/Heap41a and delete the contents of the folder. Smiple.

The best precaution is to avoid transferring data from internet centers using flash drives.

Bharat Student is spamming on Orkut. It is a social networking site like orkut.This is for students in India. They spam communities. They put up posts that caries links which claim to give adult content but will lead you to Bharat Student.com registration page.They do give such content but i never tried it out as i hate registration. Several user have reported it.

All the posts are put up by female(name).Here some question arises Who are these Females?? Are they real or fake profiles?? If they are real are the folks being paid by the company for doing it ??

If BharatStudent.Com is paying someone to spam on Orkut. Why ? May be they want user to get registered in their site but this is of no use as the chances them use it regularly is bleak. May may not get registered only.

All the links are shortened links like“tinyurl.com/1cc562″. So you never know where it leads to unless you click on it. Most of them ask to cut and paste in a new browser window. By doing so, they don’t get noticed from Orkut or Google.

Orkut cannot do anything as such shortened url can be used by anybody.If the links said Bharatstudent.com then those could be blocked.

Workarounds if your XP can't remember folder settings

Some folder you want to view as thumbnails, for some you want to view as Tiles and for some you may want List, Icons, or Details. Your Windows used to remember all those settings for you and suddenly, your computer looks like it got brain washed. What is happening? Firstly, make sure you select Remember each folder's view settings in Control Panel -->> Folder Options as in the following diagram.

Even after that, if your XP still dumbs, the answer is that by default, Windows XP is limited to 200 local folders and 200 network folders, for a total of 400 folders. So that after it remembers for 400 folders, that's it. It's full.

How you can solve this?

First Method :

This effect only to before Windows XP SP2. So the quick fix would be to download and install Windows XP Service Pack 2. What if you don't want to install Service Pack 2 for some reasons? Read the second way.

Second Method :

You need to edit registry. As always dealing with registry, use it with great caution and use at your own risk.

Go to Start Menu -->> Run
Type regedit and press Enter.
Browse to the following registry key.
You will see the registry value BagMRU Size in the following pic.

Double click on that and change the value to 5000. Make sure you select Decimal. After that click OK.

After that browse to another registry key.
Change the BagMRU Size to 5000 too.

After you've done editing the registry, make sure you restart your Windows to make change effective. Hey, Windows is not as dumb as you think!

If you haven't heard it before, you may wonder what is Dr. Watson? Here is a brief explanation:

Dr. Watson for Windows is a program error debugger that gathers information about your computer when an error (or user-mode fault) occurs with a program. Technical support groups can use the information that Dr. Watson obtains and logs to diagnose a program error.

So, that means this debugger will collect information and send to Microsoft for further analysis. But for your testing computer that don't have internet, or if you feel it's useless for you anyway, just follow these steps to turn off.

Why Google birthday is varying from year to year?

In September 1998, Google Inc. opened its door in Menlo Park, California. The door came with a remote control, as it was attached to the garage of a friend who sublet space to the new corporation's staff of three. The office offered several big advantages, including a washer and dryer and a hot tub. It also provided a parking space for the first employee hired by the new company: Craig Silverstein, now Google's director of technology.

Already Google.com, still in beta, was answering 10,000 search queries each day. The press began to take notice of the upstart website with the relevant search results, and articles extolling Google appeared in USA TODAY and Le Monde. That December, PC Magazine named Google one of its Top 100 Web Sites and Search Engines for 1998. Google was moving up in the world.

Windows Vista SP1 Beta

Microsoft has just released Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Beta yesterday. According to Nick White announcements, currently the beta sp1 is available only to a private group of Beta testers.

Here is the my highlights about SP1.

* Have a size range from 51MB - 679.6MB depending on how often you update your Windows
* Improve responsiveness - The delay between pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE and getting the password prompt, resuming from Hibernation or Sleep are pretty much gone
* Search option has been removed from the Start menu, instead "Search Everywhere" with users can choose their favorite desktop search program such as Google Desktop.
* Select Volumes - a new option in Windows Vista's Disk Defragmenter
* BitLocker Control Panel - users of Windows Vista Enterprise and Ultimate are now able to choose which drives to encrypt

After I have read about all new exciting features, I wish I am one of the private beta testers. Anyway, I'll be eagerly waiting for the new SP1 to come out.

Digg-clone netscape is gone

Now if you go to Netscape.com, you'll get suprised that there are no longer what-so-called digg killer is there. Now, aol realized that their social networking site is gradually killing them. So they get rid of that into another domain called Propeller.com

Now the old netscape.com is back. Even though it is quite a shame to see big company like aol have to take a step backward, I congrats them for making a right decision. Yeah, that's right, in the Web 2.0 world, you can't kill digg, it's as simple as that.

Create self-extract zip file with Windows built-in tool

We all like the zip feature. Especially when I transfer a lot of .doc and .xls files, compression of zip save me a ton of space. But sometimes, I want to create exe to uncompress itself due to destination computer don't have zip software install or I'm just too lazy to open WinZip.

What most people don't know is that Windows has built-in tool to create self-extract compress files.

* Go to Start Menu -->> Run
* And then type iexpress.exe

You will see the following wizard.

* Click Next, then Choose "Create compressed files only (ActiveX installs)"
* Then Click Next, Add the files you want in your package.
* Then Click Next, click browse and choose the path you want and give any name you want to the package.
* Then Click Next, you can save the setting for creating your package. For now, select "Don't save".
* Then Click Next and your package is ready to distribute to anywhere you like.

It is quite amazing that Windows have provided such an amazing small program for free.

How to allow users to remote desktop in Windows 2003

In Windows 2003, I've created an ordinary user account and then I've add that account in to Remote Desktop Users group already as in the following picture.

But when I login remotely, I've got the following error.

To log on to this remote computer, you must be granted the Allow log on through Terminal Services right. By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If you are not a member of the remote desktop users gruop or another group that has this right, or if the remote desktop user group does not have this right, you must be granted this right manually.

I'm sure if you got this error you'll feel frustrated like I did. How can you manually grant this user right to remote desktop? Okay, it's not that difficult.

* First Go to -->> Administrative Tools -->> Terminal Services Configuration
* And then Choose Connection and in the right panel right click on RDP-tcp
* And then choose Properties. In the Permissions tab, add the users you want.

How to fix NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM not found error

In the old Windows 9x days, we have seen "NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM Not Found" error quite too often. Nowadays, modern Windows XP era, these errors become less frequent, but still there. For me, normally, I've no idea how to fix these and I used to format my computer.

If you have FAT32 partitions or Windows 9x, it is much simpler than with NTFS.
Just boot with a Win98 floppy and copy the NTLDR or NTDETECT.COM files
from the i386 directory to the root of the C:\ drive.

But for NTFS or Windows XP, here are the steps:

* Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD.
* At the first R=Repair option, press the R key
* Press the number to choose the location for the installation of Windows you want to repair.
* Typically this will be #1 unless you have dual-boot.
* Type in the administrator password. (If no password, just press Enter)
* Enter in the following commands (X: is drive letter of CDROM drive)
* COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C\:
* COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
* Take out the CD ROM and type exit

Show Start Menu Faster

This is just minor and very easy tweak. If you think your start menu don't show up fast enough when you click, you can remove any delay from menus sliding out.

To do this, you can simply edit registry value.

* First Go to Start menu -->> Run
* Then type regedit, press enter
* Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
* You will see the key, called MenuShowDelay, with the value 400.
* Double click and change the value to 0.

Just like any other registry change to take effect, you need to restart your computer.

How to keep NumLock on for every boot

How to delete undeletable files

How many times have we been annoyed by that messages? Oh yeah, there are many alternatives of above such as :

* Cannot delete file: Access is denied
* There has been a sharing violation.
* The source or destination file may be in use.
* The file is in use by another program or user.
* Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I've got two ways to solve this problem.

First way : If you're not tech buddy, you should go to second way.

* Go to Start menu -->> Run -->> type cmd and press enter (this will open command prompt)
* After that press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up task manager
* Go to Process tab, find explorer.exe, then click End Process.
* Your Taskbar will disappear.

* Go back to the Command prompt you just left opened.
* Browse folder or file you want to delete.
* Delete file with del command and remove directory with rmdir command.
* After that, in the task manager, choose File -->> New Task (Run..)
* Then type explorer.exe.
* Your taskbar will appear again.

Second way : I recommend this. This is really easy. Just download and install Unlocker, which is very useful freeware especially for this purpose. After you installed the program, all you have to do is simply right click the folder or file and select Unlocker. You can do Delete, Rename, Move at your finger tips.

Frankly speaking, I really recommend you guys to follow Second way. I intend first method for those of you who just want to know workaround or who don't wanna install any extra programs.

Microsoft Windows 95 Commercial

Hide your Windows from Network Neighborhood

Using computer in public places is unsafe anyway. If your Windows show up in Network Neighborhood or My Network Places, other users in your office LAN or public LAN can access your share files. So, how I can you share your files without showing up in Network Neighborhood?

It's very simple. Just follow these steps.

Go to Start menu -->> Run
Type cmd, then press Enter
In command prompt, type net config server

If you see "Server hidden" is "No", that means other users can see your share files in My Network Places. You can change it by typing the following command.

net config server /hidden:yes

So from now on, the only way the other users can access your share files is via your ip address. In DHCP environment, other users wouldn't know it unless you gave them.

Microsoft BlueScreen Screen Saver

Microsoft has been famous and criticized for their BlueScreen of Death(BSOD). Most people of Windows 95, 98 era scariest nightmare is they saw BSOD.

But since Windows XP, Microsoft has greatly improved their OS and at Vista, I have been using for six months, I have never seen BSOD again.

As BSOD become a thing in the past, now Microsoft even made fun of it by releasing BlueScreen Screensaver. First time I know Microsoft has a sense of humor.

What's this screensaver?

Bluescreen cycles between different Blue Screens and simulated boots every 15 seconds or so. If you have no idea what Smorty is, let me give you a brief introduction. Smorty is a blog advertising service connecting advertisers with bloggers. Command Prompt Options

If you haven't known it before, I know you're wondering are there any options exist in command prompt or not? Well, they do exist. To access,

First Start Menu -->> Run -->> Type cmd and press enter.

Command Prompt Configurable Options

After that left click on the top corner of command prompt dialog box as below :

Click on Defaults and you will see the following dialog box.

Let me explain you about the Edit Options. There are three Edit Options available : QuickEdit Mode, Insert Mode and AutoComplete mode.

QuickEdit Mode : If you select this one, you can copy the text in the Command Prompt window with your left mouse button, and then right-click to paste either at the command prompt or in a text file.

Insert Mode : This mode is same function as keyboard key insert. If you select this mode, you can insert text at the point of the cursor, if you don't select this option, the text will be override.

AutoComplete Mode : This option is available from the Windows XP and later version only. It allows you to quickly complete available commands when you type Tab or if you don't type anything and just start pressing tab , it will cycle through the available items in the current working directory.

You can select and unselect that mode as you desire.

List of Commands you typed

Most of you may probably know that you can get to the last few commands you typed by pressing the up arrow key. Well, I believe only a few of you know that you can view and select command you typed earlier by pressing F7 key to bring the following dialog box.

These command prompt options exist as early as Windows 95 (maybe even Windows 3.1 but who cares?). Most people are not aware that these options even exist. By knowing these things, you can brag your friends or speed up your work.

Disable Autoplay in Windows for better security

Windows default setting comes with Autoplay turn on. This feature is useful until one day you've got hit by usb worm or virus. To protect you from infecting all sorts of worm or virus from usb, you should disable the autoplay feature.

Follow these steps for Windows XP

* Go to Start -->> Run -->> Type gpedit.msc
* In the Group Policy Editor, go to Computer Configuration
* Select Administrative templates -->> System
* You will find Turn off Autoplay in the right column setting list.
* Double click on Turn off Autoplay and you'll see as Windows below.
* Select Enabled and Turn off Auto play on drop-down menu, choose All drives.

For Windows Vista, things got simpler.

* Just go to Start Menu -->> Control Panel -->> AutoPlay
* And then uncheck for Use AutoPlay for all media and devices

I have shared with you guys about Firefox great plugin, adblock plus. I have enjoyed Adblock plus plugin so much that, I can't browse without it anymore.

Now I have found a great companion called Adblock filterset.G Updater. That will automatically update the block list for Adblock plus. This tool is really cool.

If you want to notice a big change, visit bloggerwave.com before you installed that extension and after. It adds bloggerwave.com to the whitelist so you can see the option for advertiser to login. Go ahead and install that plugin, because it will update your list every 4 or 7 days.

Windows store your username and passwords

Sometimes you're using IE or even from Windows Explorer ask for websites username and passwords, you accidentally click save username and password. Actually that is not your computer and you don't want it to save your infos. How can you delete?

Go to Start Menu -->> Run
Type Control keymgr.dll and press Enter
You will see the following dialog box

It will show server name. Click properties and if you see your username, you should remove that entry. Those with (Passport) means it is for Windows passport website such as MSN or Windows Live. You can delete your username.

That's it! I hope this helps. This tip works on all version of Windows.

Duplicate file finder

One thing that bothers me with my computer is that as I have collected my collections of mp3s, there are numerous songs that are common in some albums. For example, 50 cent - Candy shop will be in 50 cent The Massacre album also in Various Artists album, Top Club Hits, and so on.

But now I found a program called duplicate file finder. This program will find all the duplicate files in your computer or your selected folder. You have the final say whether to delete duplicate file or not.

What so good about this program?

Unlike other utilities that only check file names, Duplicate File Finder performs a binary comparison of file contents and can locate files that are alike regardless of names.

I like this program. You can download shareware version for using 20 times. For me, I run only one time and almost all my duplicate files are gone. If you need to use more than 20 times, you will have to purchase for $15/single user. Still a good deal, isn't it?

How to find problematic svchost

Sometimes, WinXP got slow down extremely and barely respond. After you open the Task Manager you found that one of the svchost.exe is eating all CPU resource.

The difficult thing is that svchost.exe is used by Microsoft Windows Services and run many instances simultaneously. Sometimes, malware also run with the same name too. How can you differentiate which one is malware or which one is legitimate.

Ok, after you open Task manager,
Go to View-->>Select Columns -->> Check PID (Process Identifier)

You will see the Task manager as below:

Record the PID no. of the svchost process. After that, go to command prompt.
Type Tasklist /SVC

You will see the svchost with the PID. So that now you've got an idea of which process are actually associated with that svchost instance. If you want to know more info of that process you can google it. For example if you suspect CryptSvc, you google it and you'll know that cryptsvc is a module associated with Cryptographic Services from Microsoft Corporation. Ok, that's legitimate, you can try next one and hopefully you'll spot the spyware if there's one.

Small secrets for Windows

Do you that when you open volume control the default is large size, you can change it to small size by pressing Ctrl+S. Pressing again will change back to large size.

When you have multiple windows open, you can close many windows you want by pressing Ctrl and clicking windows at the taskbar, after that right click and close group.

If you want Notepad to automatically insert date and time for you, you can press F5. If you want Notepad to insert date and time every time you open the file, you can write .LOG at the first line and save.

Even though these tips aren't that useful in my daily usage, I'm quite surprise to find these tips and happy to share with you all.

How I speed up my Vista

I have noticed Windows Vista built-in indexing service eat up my computer resource from time to time. Usually at night, while my computer is idle. It is ok to use all the resources while the computer is idle, but my computer has got extra cooling fan that turn on when CPU usage over around 70%. So that Vista eating resource really bothers me at night.

But thanks GOD! Not anymore. From 10 vista speed tweaks, I've used only one and turn out my Vista performance very great.

Disable Unnecessary Windows Features

You can view and disable features that you don't need.

Click Start Menu then Control Panel
Select Programs and Features
On the left panel, select Turn Windows Features on or off
I uncheck these features as I won't use them:
Indexing Service ( I took risk by assuming I won't need search feature badly)
Remote Differential Compression ( At home, I don't have any network)
Tablet PC Optional Components ( I am using PC, not tablet)
Windows Fax & Scan (I've got broadband, no need to use fax modem)
Windows Meeting Space (Nah, I prefer Skype Video conference)

How to create and delete invisible folder

Before I'll explain you this trick, I want to warn you that in my Vista, I've got sweat to find way to delete that's invisible folder. So that, if you don't want to mess with your computer, please don't try this trick.

For all those daredevils, here is the procedure:

1. Create New folder.
2. Right-click on it, then choose rename.
3. After that delete the name New Folder and press Alt+0160
4. That'll create invisible space in the folder name, press Enter.
5. Right-click that folder, choose properties, then go to Customize tab
6. Click Change Icon and then choose invisible icon as in below screenshot.

That's it. It's done.

Diggin's Tips : The drama part is that if you want to delete that folder, it won't work in some Windows. For my Vista, it doesn't work. So I have to use DelinvFile to get rid of that stupid invisible folder. That's why I warn you before I start.

Google Earth Flight Simulator

Last month, I have told you guys about Google Earth closeup photos. But there are many things Google Earth can do. You can even use as a flight simulator. Yeah! that's hidden feature (or easter egg, you named it) in latest version of Google Earth.

First start the program, then you can press Ctrl+Alt+A and then you'll see the flight simulator screen. You can choose two planes. For a place, you can choose Google's given airports or you can start anywhere on planet.

How to enable telnet in Vista

When I try to use telnet feature in Vista, I couldn't use it. After scrolling through Microsoft help, I learn that you need to enable it in Vista first.

Go to Start -->> Control Panel -->> Programs and features -->> Turn Windows features on or off

After that, check Telnet Client and click ok.

That's it. You can use telnet in Vista from Run command or Command prompt now.

Since I restarted my blogging, I am looking for Google Page Rank update. But now, Google must be doing really big to crack link baiting scam. That's a good thing actually as many people are taking advantages of a number assigned by Google almost every 3 months.

Add your favorite folder to Send To

Having your favorite folders in the Send To menu can be a real time saver. Whenever you want to copy/move, just right click on something and select Send To, then you can choose your folder just like the following screen shot.

To do this, go to C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\SendTo\ and simply add your own shortcuts to what ever folders you want to appear.

Note : SendTo folder is hidden folder, so you need to make show all in folder options.

Enabling Copy-Paste for Google Office in Firefox

Firefox has a feature that prevents rich-text editors from using copy, cut and paste. A malicious script could read the content from your clipboard and send it to a server. Your clipboard might contain sensitive information, so you don't want to let every site read the clipboard.

Unfortunately, these restrictions make sites like Google Docs & Spreadsheets harder to use, as you can't use options like: copy, cut, paste from the menus and you have to use browser's Edit menu or keyboard shortcuts.

If you want to enable these options for this site, you have to:

1. Open this file in Notepad:
For Windows 2000/XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile name]\user.js

replace [username] with your Windows username and [profilename] with the name of your active profile (most likely, the only profile)

2. Append these lines:

Enabling right click on sites that disable it

Lots of web sites have disabled the right click function of the mouse button... it's really, really annoying. This is done so that you don't steal (via right-click->save picture) their photos or images or any other goodies. Unfortunately, it disables ALL right-click functionality: copy, paste, open in new window.

It's easy to change, assuming your using IE 6:
Click "Tools"->"Internet Options"
Click the "Security" tab
Click "Custom Level"
Scroll down to the "Scripting" section
Set "Active Scripting" to "disable"
Click "Ok" a couple of times.

You'll probably want to turn this back to "enable" when your done... 'cause generally the javascript enhances a website.

If you will use it to browse cracked site, it will last much longer and more
people will be able to use it. Here is a little tutorial how to use them in two
different web browsers.

In FireFox
1. Click "Tools" tab at the top of the browser
2. Click "Options" at the bottom of unrolled list
3. Click "General" tab then "Connection Settings" button
4. Put a check next to the "Manual Proxy Configuration"
5. Enter the first part of proxy eg. 142.103.2.1 in "HTTP proxy"
6. Enter the second part of proxy eg. 3124 in "Port"
7. Click OK and then again OK
8. Now you can browse the site

In Internet Explorer

1. Click on "Tools" Tab at the top
2. Click "Internet Options" at the bottom of unrolled list
3. Click on the "Connections" tab
4. Click on the "LAN Settings" button
5. Put a check next to the "Use a proxy for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections)."

Google Image Search could be used in many ways.

9. Find the color of a word. "Word Color is a windows program that uses Google Image Search to determine the color of a word or string of words. It goes out there, retrieves the top 9 images and loops through all pixels, calculating the average hue, which is later converted to a color."

10. If you want to grab search results, GoogleGrab is a tool that downloads images from Google Image Search. It even supports batch search.

Google Talk Gadget Adds Multi-User Chats

Google Talk Gadget added support group chat. Just click on the "Group Chat" button when you are in a conversation, and you can invite other people to join your discussion. Unfortunately, this feature is not available in any other client, so if you invite someone who uses Google Talk for Windows, Gmail Chat or other Jabber client, he'll get a link to the web version of Google Talk.

The Windows client seems to be neglected this year, but I bet we'll see a major new release in the coming weeks that will add all the new features from the web version, phone calls and more.
